The use of hearing aids can enhance the ability to hear sounds and speech, especially in noisy environments, they can reduce social isolation, depression, and the risk of dementia and falls, and can allow users to engage more actively in daily activities. Prescription hearing aids are tailored to individual needs, considering factors like the degree of hearing loss, ear anatomy, and personal preferences. They offer various styles, features, and sound processing options to ensure optimal comfort and performance. At Jacksonville Speech and Hearing Center, we provide fully customizable prescription hearing aids. Oftentimes, insurance will cover some or all of the cost of hearing aids. Our audiologists and billing specialists are highly experienced with fully utilizing insurance benefits.

Tinnitus, the medical term for ringing in the ears, affects about 15% of people. Severe tinnitus can disrupt concentration and sleep, leading to frustration and depression over time. It results from underlying causes such as hearing loss, ear injury, or certain medications. While there is no cure, tinnitus retraining therapy can significantly reduce how noticeable or bothersome the condition is. Our audiologists are highly experienced in managing tinnitus.
Dr. Fenja Mattson is one of our audiologists at Jacksonville Speech & Hearing Center. She is trained in Tinnitus Retraining Therapy and has over 20 years of experience managing severe tinnitus and hyperacusis. Dr. Mattson enjoys advocating for her patients and states, "To me, it's about helping them get their life back on track. There is nothing greater than giving back to someone who needs the same help. Having the right support makes all the difference." In addition, Dr. Mattson is also a peer mentor with the Wounded Warrior Project, working with veterans who have suffered acoustic trauma.
Sergeant Gurgen Petrosyan of the U.S. Army Reserve has received treatment at JSHC for tinnitus and hyperacusis. He saw several other audiologists and ENTs in Duval County before coming to JSHC. He recommends JSHC to fellow veterans and says of Dr. Mattson, "She doesn't only have professional experience but a personal one since her husband is a combat vet. I am truly blessed to be here and have her as an audiologist who can understand what I am going through."
