OUR ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF
President and CEO: Mike Howland
Mike Howland brings a wealth of leadership experience to the Jacksonville Speech & Hearing Center. He has led the U.S. Small Business Administration in San Francisco, Independent Charities of America, Christian Service Charities and three related associations of national charities, Noble of Indiana and the Southeastern Council of Foundations. He also served as Vice President for University Advancement and Chief Strategic Relations Officer at his Jacksonville University alma mater. His long history with JU includes serving as president of the student body and the JU alumni association, and as chair of the trustee nominating and governance committee of the board of trustees.
Mike has chaired a plethora of national and local non-profit boards and campaigns. He currently serves as Chair of the Family Foundations of Northeast Florida Board of Directors and on the Board of Directors of Leadership Jacksonville. In addition to his JU degree, Mike was the first person to graduate from St. Louis University with both Juris Doctor and Master of Arts-Public Administration degrees. He is a Certified Association Executive. Mike and wife Cathy have three children, Jim, Chris and Madeline, a JU Nursing student, and three grandchildren.
Fun Facts: (I) Mike has played baseball at AT&T Stadium in San Francisco, the Oakland Coliseum and Wrigley Field. (II) Mike and Cathy lived in Washington, DC, San Francisco and Indianapolis when the Redskins, 49ers (2) and Colts won Super Bowls…so there’s still hope for Jaguars fans.
Director of Operations: Chandra Manning
Chandra joined the JSHC team in 2019 and comes with recent experience as a Director of Operations in private practice audiology. She contributes to the success of the practice at 1010 N. Davis Street by working with the team of doctors, speech language pathologists and administrative staff to ensure the highest quality speech and hearing healthcare available in Jacksonville and an unparalleled patient experience.
Her background in communication, creative marketing, office management and project management offer a wide variety of skills that are useful to JSHC.
Fun Facts: Chandra was a Navy brat, having lived as far west as Hawaii and as far east as the Azores. She’s enjoys travelling, having visited or lived in six countries. She’s called Jacksonville home since 1996. It is here that she met her husband and has been raising their two daughters.
Director of Development: Jackie Culver
Jackie joined JSHC in December 2018, bringing an expansive knowledge of fundraising, development, grant writing, and event planning to the JSHC team. Her portfolio includes previous experience as the Executive Director of Marathon High, Executive Director of the Shannon Miller Foundation, Annual Fund Coordinator for the Jacksonville University Office of Alumni Relations, and President/Owner of JOC Fitness.
Jackie is a proud graduate from the University of Central Florida, where she was a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society. Jackie currently serves on the Mayor’s Council for Fitness and Wellbeing and is an active member of the Rotary Club West of Jacksonville. In 2018, she was honored by the organizing body of the Gate River Run, JTC Running, with their Outstanding Community Service Award. Always active in local media, she has had numerous radio and television appearances promoting wellness. You can also read many of her articles in Jacksonville Magazine and 904 Fitness.
Fun Facts: Jackie grew up on a sugar cane farm in southern Louisiana at a time when farm-to-table cuisine was only for the poor. She moved to Jacksonville, Florida in 1996 and lives here with her husband and two children.
Controller: Lynne Woodall
Lynne Woodall joined JSHC in October 2011, after 23 years as Chief Financial Officer at the Boy’s Home in Jacksonville.
Lynne and husband, Jerry, have been married for 43 years. They have a daughter, Jennifer, a Registered Nurse.
Fun Facts: She enjoys reading, completing crossword puzzles, and Genealogy. She collects M & M candy dispensers. In the fall her mantra is a passionate, “Roll Tide!”
Executive Assistant: Erika Hooper
Erika joined JSHC in January 2020, fulfilling a lifelong goal of working for a non-profit organization. Prior to joining the JSHC Team, she gained wide-ranging experience as an executive assistant performing a multitude of administrative duties across various industries.
Erika began her career path at a fast-paced, urgent care medical facility where she performed all front and back office duties that involved patient interaction while obtaining a Medical Assistant Certification and an Associate of Arts degree from Florida State College at Jacksonville. Erika then graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology with a concentration in Health Sciences and Business Management. After college, Erika followed her personal passion for the creative arts by working for a local photography studio and gained over a decade of experience as a Professional Photographer and Graphic Designer. Eventually, Erika went on to work as a regional sales coordinator and corporate customer service liaison for a nationwide provider of medical spa services. Erika also has experience as a Marketing Coordinator and Product Specialist in the financial technology field.
Fun Facts: Erika is a third generation Jacksonville native and graduate of First Coast High School. Erika and her wife Dee are the proud parents of one son and are happy new foster parents to their nephew and two granddaughters. Erika has past volunteer experience with the American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and the American Cancer Society; she is excited to turn a life of volunteering into a career.
Associate Director of Development: Emily Wasek
Emily joined JSHC in June 2018 as the JSHC’s first Nonprofit Fellow, following a year of service with City Year Jacksonville, an AmeriCorps educational non-profit. She was promoted to Associate Director of Development in July 2020. Emily graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the College of William & Mary with a Bachelor of Arts in Government. She contributes to the JSHC team in a variety of areas including social media coordination, grant writing, marketing, business development, fundraising, and governance.
Fun Facts: Originally from North Carolina, Emily’s passion for good BBQ is only exceeded by her passion for service. She is an avid history buff, with a particular love for the American Revolution. Her hobbies include singing, playing the piano, reading, writing, and practicing yoga.
Development Coordinator: Hannah Youngworth
Hannah Youngworth first started at JSHC in August 2019 as an Outreach Coordinator with National Health Corps, an AmeriCorps public health non-profit. Following her service year with National Health Corps, she joined the JSHC Team as Development Coordinator in July 2020. Hannah is a graduate of Westminster College with a B.A. in Spanish. She is originally from Coraopolis, Pennsylvania.
As Development Coordinator, Hannah’s primary responsibilities include fundraising, grant writing, community outreach, volunteer coordination, and data management.
Fun Facts: Hannah’s second language is Spanish! She also lived in Salamanca, Spain for 4 months during her study abroad semester.
Billing Coordinator: April Newton
April has been with JSHC since 2008. She began her journey at JSHC in the front office and has since worked her way up in the organization to become the referral coordinator and now the billing coordinator. She has a passion for helping people and is proud that her work makes a difference in the lives of others. April is a Jacksonville native, she attended Jacksonville University and is a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. She is also the mother of a very precocious 11-year-old.
Fun Facts: April is an avid reader and loves all things purple and her favorite phrase is “Roll Tide.” She also is the daughter of a knife maker.
Benefits Coordinator: Ray Griffiths
Raymond Griffiths initially joined our staff in April 2018 as Front Office Coordinator. He now serves as Benefits Coordinator, where he focuses on insurance credentialing, as well as processing referrals and authorizations. He is a Minnesota transplant, having graduated from Eden Prairie High School and attended the University of Minnesota and University of Phoenix.
Fun Facts: Ray is a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and enjoys visiting art museums, going to the movies, and volunteering at various events around Jacksonville.
Front Office Coordinator: Taureon Sutton
Taureon joined JSHC in July 2020 as Front Desk Coordinator. A U.S. Army combat veteran, he previously served in Iraq and Afghanistan. Later, he gained experience in patient administration by working at several Level One Trauma facilities including Landstuhl Army Med Center and Madigan Army Med Center as a Patient Administration Specialist. In addition to these roles, Taureon served as a Coordinator and Squad Leader at the Warrior Transition Brigade, working to get wounded and ill service members home. Taureon also has strong experience in the nonprofit sector, having worked as a Manager at the Fisher House, a foundation that builds comfort homes where military & veterans’ families can stay free of charge while a loved one is in the hospital.
Taureon graduated from Ashford University with a B.S. in Sociology and a concentration in Education, and Stanford University with a B.S. in Law. Originally from Beaufort, South Carolina, he is an avid Carolina Panthers and Clemson University Fan, when he’s not rooting for Army Football.
Fun Facts: In his spare time, Taureon is a personal trainer. He is also an avid bowler and is a part of a bowling league in Jacksonville. He and his partner are avid theme park enthusiasts and beach bums. Together, they frequently visit Universal Studios.
