President and CEO: Mike Howland

Mike Howland brings a wealth of leadership experience to the Jacksonville Speech & Hearing Center. He has led the U.S. Small Business Administration in San Francisco, Independent Charities of America, Christian Service Charities and three related associations of national charities, Noble of Indiana and the Southeastern Council of Foundations. He also served as Vice President for University Advancement and Chief Strategic Relations Officer at his Jacksonville University alma mater. His long history with JU includes serving as president of the student body and the JU alumni association, and as chair of the trustee nominating and governance committee of the board of trustees.

Mike has chaired a plethora of national and local non-profit boards and campaigns. He currently serves as Chair of Leadership Jacksonville’s Leadership Development Team and Chair of the Family Foundations of Northeast Florida Board of Directors. In addition to his JU degree, Mike was the first person to graduate from St. Louis University with both Juris Doctor and Master of Arts-Public Administration degrees. He is a Certified Association Executive. Mike and wife Cathy have three children, Jim, Chris and Madeline, a JU Nursing student, and three grandchildren.

Fun Facts: (I) Mike has played baseball at AT&T Stadium in San Francisco, the Oakland Coliseum and Wrigley Field. (II) Mike and Cathy lived in Washington, DC, San Francisco and Indianapolis when the Redskins, 49ers (2) and Colts won Super Bowls…so there’s still hope for Jaguars fans.

Director of Operations (Volunteer): Cathy Howland, SPHR, SHRM-SCP

Cathy Howland began volunteering for JSHC shortly after Mike took over as President, and it quickly evolved into a full-time passion. Cathy has helped with HR, fundraising, including managing FinFest 2015, front office operations and billing, and now oversees JSHC operations at 1128 N. Laura Street.

Cathy graduated from St. Louis University with a Bachelor of Science in Social Work, and has earned the SPHR and SHRM-SCP HR certifications. She previously has worked as an HR manager and paralegal.

Fun Facts: Cathy’s greatest passions are her children and grandchildren. She is a very loyal St. Louis Cardinals Baseball and San Francisco 49ers football fan.

Chief Development Officer: Kristen Dietzen

Kristen Dietzen began working for JSHC in August 2013, shortly after graduating from the University of North Florida with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. She assumed some marketing and grant writing responsibilities and grew into the position of Manager of Grant Development. She then served as Director of Development through June 2017, when she transitioned into the Director of Grant Development role. The following year, Kristen was promoted to Chief Development Officer. Kristen contributes to JSHC’s overall fundraising strategy, including marketing and communications, though her primary focus is expanding our grant revenue and developing new grant funded programs.

Fun Fact: Kristen enjoys cooking, traveling and reading nonfiction.

Controller: Lynne Woodall

Lynne Woodall joined JSHC in October 2011, after 23 years as Chief Financial Officer at the Boy’s Home in Jacksonville.

Lynne and husband, Jerry, have been married for 43 years. They have a daughter, Jennifer, a Registered Nurse.

Fun Facts: She enjoys reading, completing crossword puzzles, and Genealogy. She collects M & M candy dispensers. In the fall her mantra is a passionate, “Roll Tide!”

Executive Assistant & Donor Relations Manager: Sheri Taylor 

Sheri joined JSHC in June 2018 and brings with her extensive experience in executive administration, administrative assistance, and event planning, including six years at Jacksonville University. She graduated from Ashford University with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. Sheri supports the CEO and Board of Directors and Development, with a special emphasis on donor recognition and keeping donors informed of the great work of the Center and its clinicians.

Fun Facts: Sheri is a huge fan of the Mets, the Jets, and Notre Dame Football. She also enjoys reading, cross stitching, making jewelry, and various other crafts. She has two children, Ashleigh and Matthew, who she loves seeing when they’re visiting Jacksonville.

Fellow: Emily Wasek 

Emily joined JSHC in June 2018, following a year of service with City Year Jacksonville, an AmeriCorps educational non-profit. Emily graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the College of William & Mary with a Bachelor of Arts in Government. As the Center’s first-ever Fellow, she contributes to the JSHC team in a variety of areas including social media coordination, grant writing, marketing, business development, fundraising, and governance.

Fun Facts: Originally from North Carolina, Emily’s passion for good BBQ is only exceeded by her passion for service. She is an avid history buff, with a particular passion for the American Revolution. Her hobbies include singing, playing the piano, reading, writing, and practicing yoga.

Billing Coordinator: April Newton

April has been with JSHC since 2008. She began her journey at JSHC in the front office and has since worked her way up in the organization to become the referral coordinator and now the billing coordinator. She has a passion for helping people and is proud that her work makes a difference in the lives of others.  April is a Jacksonville native, she attended Jacksonville University and is a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. She is also the mother of a very precocious 11-year-old.

Fun Facts: April is an avid reader and loves all things purple and her favorite phrase is “Roll Tide.” She also is the daughter of a knife maker.

Referral Coordinator: Lia Richardson

Lia started at JSHC as the Front Desk associate in April 2015 and now focuses on processing referrals and authorizations. She has a Bachelors in Health Administration from the University of North Florida. She is currently going to school for a Post-Baccalaureate in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of South Florida and will soon begin working on receiving her certification to be a registered behavior technician.

Fun Facts: Lia enjoys cooking and experimenting with vegetarian-based recipes. She does volunteer work with young adults who have developmental disabilities and spends her free time doing creative DIY projects around the house.

Patient Care Coordinator: Ray Griffiths 

Raymond Griffiths is our most recent addition to an already talented front office.  As the new Patient Care Coordinator, he has his hands in many baskets, scheduling all patient appointments and ensuring quality front desk service. He is a Minnesota transplant, having graduated from Eden Prairie High School and attended the University of Minnesota and University of Phoenix.

Fun Facts: Ray is a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and enjoys visiting art museums, going to the movies, and volunteering at various events around Jacksonville.
