For over 60 years, the Jacksonville Speech & Hearing Center has provided professional, compassionate care to thousands of adults and children in the Jacksonville area, providing them with the necessary communications tools to live fuller and more productive lives.
The Speech & Hearing Center was founded in 1949 as one of the first speech and hearing centers to serve children in Northeast Florida.
In 1948, there were no services in the Jacksonville area for children with hearing or speech problems, although hearing, speaking and understanding the spoken language are essential components to a child’s growth and development. The Junior League of Jacksonville recognized the need for these important services and helped to found what would later be known as the Jacksonville Speech and Hearing Center.
